My speedometer all of sudden stopped working. It actually made a small noise and then stopped on 20 mph. Not sure my eyes were playing tricks on me but it seemed to go all the way around and then stopped about 35 mph. Later it dropped to 20 mph. However the odometer and trip-ometer keeps working. Thinking I might have a kink in the cable I pulled the inspection cover on the firewall and removed the cable from the trans to the gauge. I can freely spin the cable in the sheath by hand and made sure it was well lubricated. Plugged it back into the gauge and chucked the cable into a drill and spun it. No luck with the speedometer. Odometer works though. Is it safe to say the speedo is shot? How do I fix this?

If the odometer is working but not the speedo, the problem is not in the cable or transmission.
Call Speedometer Service Co. in Milwaukee, Wi. (414) 463-6660. We have him make speedo cables for us and he did repair a 47 Fraiser Manhattan speedo for us that quit working.
