i have a 1951 ford pick up im trying to seperate the ring gear from the carrier on a banjo rear end i have never seen this style no nut and bolts am i over my head or can somebody give some advice
Pictures help, since most of us have not worked on a bigger truck like that. But it sounds like it's riveted. Does it look like this?
Do you have the Shop Manual? Some of these cases require a spreader to open up the case to remove the the ring and pinion gear. Some say it can be done without the spreader on the F1 unit. I’m not sure about the 1 tons.
no i dont but i got the carrier out after splitting the rear end im trying to figure out how to separate the ring gear from the carrier,my father had done one years ago and said he had to cut the big rivets and they send new bolts with new ring and pinion set.im just trying to make sure before i ruining anything
You may not like this advice. Half tons and F2s are more desirable and you can do more with them. If the bigger truck sheet metal is in good condition. A lot of the times they are. It may be better to find a F1 and build a 1/2 ton or even a 3/4 ton out of the parts. The greatest mistake I made with my F1 project was not using the like brand new cab from an F7 fire engine. Somebody had to have it.....they never did anything to that fire engine and they hit hard times. That cab along with the rest of it got s****ped. I could not bring myself to break up that old big truck, in the end, I wish I did. The dang doors closed like new. It was garaged for decades.
