Well small thing done today, The previous owner welded up the gas door and i dude a crude job... so i cut it it all out and replaced with new the gas door :p i was debating on using a mustang gas tank but my trunk floor has no rust and gas tank was good, so i didnt want to cut it out.

not bad to self taught welding

  10. You might rob a remote oil filter setup from a 4wd S10/blazer to aid in clearance

  12. When I looked at your pics my first thought was with as tight as fit was on the oil filter I wouldn't wanna change the oil lol. And I used to mess with s10s so I have a memory bank of parts lol. Added perk is it'll slightly increase the oil capacity helping the oil stay cleaner and a touch cooler. Also should you so choose you could plumb an oil cooler inline. Those actually help a lot in a hot rod

Yeah, on my '49 I used a Moroso remote filter mounted off the firewall... solved a lot of issues.

Well.. got a rusted patch replaced.... tho still learning how to weld by reading books and youtube. i cant for the life or me figure out why I'm burning wholes... or cracking. I was told to much heat but I have it where the settings suggested. Any ideas?

Wire feed rate vs. "heat" setting must be in sinc.

In my experience, rust repair is more about technique than welder settings. It takes time and clean steel.

To a certain extent... As mentioned above, cleanliness is essential for a good weld.
Rusted metal tends to be thinner in places, hence the burn through. Minor adjustments are often needed as needed. When the metal is rusted, it needs to be completely replaced in that area for success.

Well I cleaned the metal and wired wheeles the back the welds came out alot better.
Still by no means perfect, but way better then a rusted hole.

Cool beans... experiment with less/more wire speed as well as less/more power to get just the right result. Practice is the only way to learn. You'll get it!

I ended up changing water pumps to a short pump for more clearance!. Getting close to getting her running 20241113_181724.jpg

Well... new problem again.. I had to use spacers to get the rad moved forward.
The description claims it fits but... nope
Now I need to find a low profile rad fan thickness about 2.5" total to make work

The 49 was a first try at making a modern Ford and needed to be improved. The 50 was advertised as improved in 50 ways. You may want to look at a 50 to see what the factory did to make it better
