So trying to get the Woodie to Goodguys in Puyallup... We are having some starting issues.. So eveything is charging ok. Installed starter solenoid, new voltage regulator, swapped in three starters( one new , and two good used ones)..by passed the solenoid and tried some other tricks also.. I replaced both positive and negative cables.. I have the new that goes from the solenoid to starter...Starts fine when cold,,but after getting hot won't turn over.. Any Ideas ?

Is it still 6 volt? Did you polarize the system? I'm sure you know factory system was positive ground. With that said my thoughts are this...
    Ground
Without a good ground things heat up. When they get too hot they swell. When things swell they can loose what ground they had. Check the Engine Ground strap. You may have to clean rust, dirt, grime or paint from the connection.

Another problem may be too small a ground or too small a primary cable. Box Store cables are too small. To small a cable = heat. When the solenoid gets hot, they refuse to work, sometimes you can unhook the battery and cool them off with cold water...that is in an emergency.
Check cable size and ground. Sometimes the engine ground straps get removed through the years.

Be sure you have three grounds. Body to frame, Frame to engine and Engine to body. Flathead I am****uming.
Check your advance and timing. I would also be positively sure you're getting a good charge. 13.5 volts at battery post when at idle. Have your battery checked.

8ba flathead, bought all three cables from Dennis C. Ford reproduction parts.. Haven't put the solenoid to starter cable on. The car is still 6 VOLT. The battery checks out ok, no low cells, or shorted out ones. Running a 8 volt battery is that makes any difference. charging ok, cold fires right up...when it's at operating temp, thats when we have starting problems. Turn key on, and push start*****on and starter tries to kick but won't turn..

Sounds like maybe the starter was getting heat-soaked. Any of the exhaust system running near it? Rigging up a starter heat shield might help.
