Was wondering if someone could tell me if a 1951 ford victoria and 1951 4dr sedan have the same frame? Can i put the victoria body on sedan frame?
I know convertibles have a reinforced frame; it is different enough to require a different overdrive transmission than the "regular" cars. Since the Victoria was derived from the convertible, it probably has the same frame. The Victoria and sedan frames are probably very similar, and the extra frame reinforcements (if you have them) could probably be added to the sedan frame to bring it "up to snuff".
What I am saying is that the Victoria frame may have some additional reinforcement that are not on the sedan frame . If it does, they can probably be added. Also, if the Victoria was not originally an automatic as well, the transmission crossmember may be different. The sedan frame is a little different, but can be made to work quite easily.
I have a complete, with front suspension frame that is super nice from a 49 2 door sedan. I would like to get rid of it and its too nice to scrap. Not sure if its the same as a 4 door or not. If you are interested, let me know. Located in Chicago suburb. Bill
Hmmm. More difference than I thought. Now the question is : Does the Victoria have a convertible frame? The story is that Ford, in a last minute response to the 1950 Chevrolet Bel Aire hardtop, simply added a new steel top to the convertible so they would have a hardtop to offer for 1951. This suggests to me that the Victoria has a convertible frame. I guess you're just gonna hafta crawl under and take a look.
My Grandmother's favorite car was a 1951 Bel Air. She referred to both the Bel Air and the Victoria as "Hardtop Convertibles", because they were.
