NICE PAINT! You must be just frickin happier than a fat kid in a candy store! I'm totally blown away!!
i went back to the first page and i gotta say, what an ugly car to start with haha. its really looking great, you have outdone yourself on this project. this is one for the custom palace in the sky or something haha
Wow, love the color choice! Can't wait to see it all buttoned back up. This is an awesome pic by the way, I couldn't help play around a bit with it:
Kongrats on the shinny, I hope to get there someday. Love your car and I can't wait to see it put back together.... Good luck. Happy Trails, Mick
Yes we have the second headlight ring now. Gene had a friend in New Zealand that found us one and shipped it. It should be arriving with the car tonight and I'll get it on the way to you. I'm really glad you got to spend some time with Gene since you are both playing important roles in the build. Hopefully we can all hang out at some shows when the car is done.
the whole saga of this build deserves to be wrapped up in one of the most iconic painters ever. Amazing... simply and utterly amazing...
Holy canoli, does that paintjob look wicked! I've obviously seen Winfield's work before, but it makes this car EXPLODE!!!
You car is really nice. I am in Mesa and hope to see it in person someday. Thanks for the awesome build thread. Dick.
excellent work. You saw something in that car that no one else could. and now everyone can see it. Long way from CAED shop huh?
Tom! CAED shop does seem like a long time ago. I've learned a lot on this build, its funny to look back to the innocent days when we were first looking at the car on the shop computer and talking about proportions and lines. I was fortunate to have guys like you and Steve to learn from.
This is a glimpse of the interior trim originally from the T-bird. It was all originally anodized aluminum. For a car of this caliber, nothing but show chrome will suffice, right? The one hockey stick-shaped piece was pretty gnarly, but it straightened out well enough. In the pic of all four polished, the one I polished uneccesarily bright is the one that was beat up, just to show that the dents are gone. All the trim had it's share of scratches and dings, which was relatively elementary. What wasn't elementary was trying to get a good pic of the original scratched up surfaces. I am obviously not a photographer by trade . All of the aluminum pieces from the 1st pic is either chromed or copper buffed and waiting for nickel/chrome right now.
This is one of the aluminum seat trims I just showed some pics of. This particular piece had nothing special going on and was already polished up, waiting patiently on my table for its turn to take a copper bath. Unfortunately, it was in the way of an exploding air line fitting. I was upset to say the least, but whaddayadoo? I was afraid it wouldn't want to straighten back out as it took a pretty nasty hit. I was pleased with the outcome, although I can still see a small wave in the right light from the metal being stretched.
