Technical 1951 mercury Carburetor help

    I haven't owned my 51 mercury for very long and I have noticed that it seems to run very rich....i havent really messed with a carburetor before...is hard to do? What am I suppose to listen for? Also....anyone have any luck finding a choke cover for these?? I just realized that was missing.... thanks! Sorry...but I am still very mich an amateur.

    Finally found that I have a Holley 885-ffc carb....apparently I am missing the auto choke unit....can just this be purchased?

    Im not sure off hand but macs auto online has a lot of ford and Mercury parts. Good place to start. Also I would recommend buying a factory service manual. It will help u with working on this car. Good luck!

    If TW above doesn't have one, best bet is to check the flea markets. These do turn up. You can find a manual for these Holley Carbs on line as well. I just went through a bunch of stuff with mine last summer. If interested pm me and I can recommend a rebuilder I used. I am sure he has the parts and if your carb needs work........

    Thanks for the info! I've tried macs and various sites and they only have rebuild kits. Not as easy as I was hoping. Are any if you guys running a different carb on your flathead than the holley 885-ffc?
