Hello, Can someone help shed some light on lowering a 51' Merc 2dr. I ordered JAMCOs 3 inch coils for the front (all stock suspension) with corresponding shocks. Will this provide enough clearance for driving comfortably? Does anyone have any pics of the aforementioned? <?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" oreferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><vath o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></vath><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shapetype><v:shape id=Picture_x0020_3 style="VISIBILITY: visible; WIDTH: 12pt; HEIGHT: 15.75pt; mso-wrap-style: square" alt="http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif" type="#_x0000_t75" o:spid="_x0000_i1026"><v:imagedata o:***le="confused" src="file:///C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\saza\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.gif"></v:imagedata></v:shape> I also ordered a complete front end steering (Jamco) and suspension (kanter) rebuilt kit. Any thoughts on quality of these parts? The rear is on 4inch blocks with de-arched springs. Frame has been C'd and it also has been tunneled. Thanks in advance for any support, and I will be posting pics once I learn to navigate this forum a little better. Sounds like a great set up to me! 3 in the fron with roughly 5 or 6 in the back? PERFECT! You dont need no stinking bags!!
I'd say you have a good plan. They always end up being adjusted AFTER you install everything anyways.... Right now mine's lowered 5"-front and 9"-rear. But i'm raising it up. BTW-Check out the "HAMB Merc Club" thread.....everything you want to know about Mercurys! Lots of pic's and ideas too.
I've never used Jamco stuff, but Kanter's front end kit is top notch!! I'm down 3'' in the front and 6" in the rear.
Thank you 1951 Streamliner, low merc51, Bad Bod, onefinecomet, and Krash. I appreciate the motivation, enthusiasm, and more importantly the inspiration. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> Krash, can you post a picture of yours so I can get an idea of where I’ll be sitting with 3” in the front? Moreover, do you bottom out a lot? <o></o> <o> </o> Ill be posting pics of the rebuild soon. Just need a better camera. <o></o>

Your setup is about the same as mine exept that I have Fatman dropped spindles and stock front springs.
Here are a few pics. (Sorry, the only ones I have at the moment). I used Fatman dropped uprights with stock coils up front. The rear has Possies reverse eyed springs and 3" blocks. It's notched and tunneled in the rear so it only bottoms out when the back seat is full and I hit a pretty good size dip.
haha Sorry about the typo Bab Bob. I now realize my typos are much more prevalent when posting during working hours, hahaha. No more of that now! haha Anyway, thank you both for posting pictures. You both have some sick fin' Mercs. Those picks really give me a better understanding of where ill be sitting. Glad i went with the 3" not the 2" coils. Is there a specific reason stock coils with uprights are the preferred way? I'm ***uming a better ride, but in what sense? are stock spindles and drop coils a rougher ride? Ill be providing a full and detailed description of my 51' in the up and coming weeks. I finally got my hands on a decent camera and will be taking photos of the suspension, motor, and trans rebuild that is currently under way on Friday. Oh front disc conversion too! I'm having most of the work done (i'm sure that pisses many people off) but i'm also working on it with my mentor (mechanic) part time when he and work allows me to; unfortunately, time and knowledge are not on my side. Gotta start someway/somehow! Should i post on the HAMB Merc Club?
I'm not running a stock frame, but just wanted to show a pic of my car... I don't bottom out and have never s****ed, and I go over speed bumps all the time in my car:
Very nice John! What set up are you running? super curious....motor, trans, suspension....the whole enchilada?????
Do you think the set up im about to install (stock front suspension with 3" drop coils/ 4" blocks and de-arched springs) will leave me around the same height?
Without a doubt, that/this is the most beautiful Merc I've ever seen....congradulations..! My dream is to maybe sell my highend Merc some day and buy something like this...very conservative and simple.
Ok, so I have a question and hopefully not hijack this thread. Lets say a guy had Fatman uprights and their drop arms that you have to buy with them. Im guessing you use your factory spindles, and what are your options for disc brakes? Is Fatman brakes the only ones you can use (and having to send in your spindles for machinework)?
I have a Jamco type setup in mine (with some moditications) Check this to see what was done---- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=349439
