Anybody know of any companies or individuals who are currently making 1951 Mercury sheetmetal/patch panels. I am mostly in need of lower quarters but might also be looking for more. Thanks.

  2. Good luck.
I’ve checked and many are back ordered or out of stock.
Someone on the hamb makes a nice rocker setup.
I just bought a sheet metal break to build mine.
There are some nice used and even NOS pieces that show up in the classifieds here and on the Mercury FB pages.

Beware of the thin slip on parts. Usually 22 gauge.

That’s what I’ve found as well. Many websites list the parts I need but nobody I can find has them available. I did get a set of rockers from shoebox central. I can use the pieces I have but it will take a fair amount of work to make them right. Thank you.

  4. I regret often not buying rockers years ago.
And those lower QTRs I passed over at a swap meet 25 years ago

Heard that haha. It’s surprising to me for how popular these cars are that there isn’t very much available.

  6. I’ve wondered the same thing.
NOS and clean pieces bring a premium.
But the stock stuff usually gets modified anyway so I’ll guess I’ll bend most if not all of mine.

maybe another member knows the guy that makes a few pieces here

Yes to both of these statements. Luckily I have collected enough bits to get my '51 in shape but it's been really tough. Someone used to make pretty accurate stamped rockers for these, I wish I could stumble on a big pile of those, I could sell them for a small fortune.

I hear you guys. Love to see someone build some quality body panels for the 49-51 Mercs.

    This is my project.

  10. Years ago, I was at the Long Island Street Rod Club swap meet, and a vendor had quite a few 1949-1951 mercury NOS lower quarter panels for sale. A couple of guys from the Long Island Ford / Mercury looked at the parts and walked away. I stepped up, and bought all of the parts . When those 2 guys came back, they were unhappy that the parts were sold. They looked at the parts before I did. As John Kovar used to say " step up or step back" We were there with Dick Spadoro,( RIP ), and he offered to bring everything back in his truck as we didn't have room for all the parts. Dick sold the parts for me, and we both were happy.

Matt Townsend builds nice rockers and floorboards. Gene Winfield makes fiberglass lower quarters. Green Mountain used to make some nice stuff. I purchased front and rear floorboards from them. I'm trying to remember who took them over.

  12. Matt Townsend is @slddnmatt here he used to always post on Instagram (townsendcustoms)when he had a run of parts ready to go but I haven't seen him do that in quite a while so not sure if he hasn't been making them or just stopped posting about it.

    Mr. chevrolet and others:
Here are the pictorials of the Green Mountain Parts I bought.
All were made of 16 ga. sheet metal and fit great.
    Hope this helps.

  17. It's hard to believe there is not enough business selling replacement panels for 49-51 Mercury's compared to other vehicles for someone to step up an manufacture these.

K13: As you know, "Stepping up" and manufacturing these replacement panels takes lots of time, committment and money not to mention the macinery and jigs required. Perhaps, if enough folks prepaid in advance someone might be willing to produce these parts knowing they alread have been paid for in advance. Carrying an inventory is too risky.
Many people have little knowledge of what it takes to make such panels and may not be willing to "step up" and pay the price , especially if 16 ga. sheet metal is used.

  19. My point it people have stepped up and make parts for a lot of other cars and seem to be able to make money. I find it strange that there isn't a market for '49-51 Mercs as well given it's almost a monthly question on here and almost everyone in existence seems to need the same parts. I would have gladly paid someone to make them for me but ended up buying a brake to do it myself due to the lack of finding anything decent and available.

K13: I agree with you as there are many posts requesting 49-51 Merc parts.
It would be interesting to find out what such parts would have to sell for in today's market conditions.
I would think thee would be a good profit margin since 49-51 Merc parts just are not readily available. A Google search shows that some 49-51 Merc sheet metal is being made BUT is not currently available. Plus there is a waiting list. Peruse this for more info.

  22. The outer rockers from C2C just look like they are just flat sheet with a couple of bends in them. No radius to them at all. Don't care how cheap they are if they are not correct they are worthless. I think that's part of the problem a few guys sell stuff that isn't right and then no one wants to risk buying parts from anyone .

  23. It's the outer rocker that is the challenge with the correct end cap. It's a lot of work. The inners are mostly just 90 degree bends.

  24. Yep. I’ve been studying that.
That piece is on hood shake on one of my cars. Plane to use it for patterns

  25. I sold a lower qtr I saved out of the woods here once for $300! I had ridden by it a hundred times on my MTB before I realized what it was. Still had factory paint on it.

Here's the title of a thread on the HAMB 1949 - 1951 Mercury Parts/ Reproduction Parts List. If I knew how to post the link, I would.
