I have a question about the stock 4 bolt pattern Holley 885 carb on the flathead.
Thinking about swapping out the stock carb with Holley 94 or Stromberg 97. Stromberg makes a 4 bolt adapter to use with the 3 bolt Holley 94 or the Stromberg 97. Does anyone know if it will bolt right up with the linkages or do those have to get replaced also? I don't want to change the intake manifold if i can just use the adapter. Any and all help is much appreciated.

a Rochester 2-jet will bolt up, like K9 said. you can pic up a few of them for the price of the damn carb kit for the stock merc carb...The stock ones work fine, I just went through one yesterday, but they are not the best looking carb for sure..

Is there anything else I need to change or swap out?

Although a small base 2GC will bolt onto the Mercury manifold, the passages in the manifold are a bit smaller than those in the carb. I bored my manifold out to 1 7/16" (the size of the 2Gc) so that the carb and the manifold matched. Also, I bought 5 different carburetors (they can be had pretty cheap) and tried them on the manifold to the find the one that would fit best (fuel line position and throttle linkage). One of the carbs I bought was just about perfect. The Mercury tube for the automatic choke even lined up correctly after a little bending and tweaking. I bought the carb kit for it by the number on the tag, so I don't know what year or make it came off of.

I forgot about the small inlet on the intake .. I had a stack of thick gaskets. I thought it was a way to stop vapor lock. I did not know what a high rise was.. this was 1961 and what did a 15 year old kid know. Damn I am old. Just to add more I was suprised to see those Merc carbs on the Army trucks when I spent some time in South East Asia.
