I just bought this car. It is currently green (ugly) with a brown top (ugh). Body good, interior to be redone. Origninal color, by looking at some areas of the firewall, was a burgundy/maroon. Does it have to be an exact factory match or would a close burgundy be acceptable. Not trying to make a show car, but not wanting to be snubbed by the 'purists'. Also, new top, I am thinking vanilla with burgundy/vanilla vinyl interior. Any thoughts? One last question. I read an article that the straight 8 in this car weighs 1,000#. Could that be or was that just an exaggeration?
Sounds like Matador Maroon Poly or Grenadier Maroon Poly. Poly is their name for metallic probably short for Polychrome. You can get the exact color mixed by any good auto paint store. Just give them the color number off the ID plate, or the name or number of the color. Or, these guys can supply the paint for any car back to the twenties. http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/aclchip.aspx?image=1951-packard-pg01.jpg The link is to the 51 Packard color chart but they have others. About the engine weight, 1000 pounds is not far off, I think it is 980 to be exact, in any case between 900 and 1000 pounds. They are a very smooth powerful motor easily capable of keeping up with modern traffic. They look impressive too. All parts are available at reasonable prices. This is the site for Packard info. They are even cool with modifications up to a point. Just don't ask how to put in a Chev engine lol. http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/
