Ive seen posts w/ people saying they have the original engine # stamped on the rear kickup area on the left hand side of the frame. Im trying to find #s stamped back there but so far no luck. can anyone help me w/ a couple pics to show exactly where to look. And how big are these #s? thanks,, jeff
I have just taken my 47 Plymouth apart. Sand blasted the frame and there are no numbers on the frame. The was a body serial number, oval shape on the firewall drivers side. The car serial number was rectangle black & white on the drivers side front door post midway between the hinges.
It's possible that if it's there it could have varied some from car to car as to the actual position. If your car has been a NY car all it's life, the frame is probably a tad rough too. About all you can do is wire brush the whole length of it and if anything comes up work more in that area. Given how easy it is to register it in New York, as long as you have a body serial tag that frame number is largely irrelevant. Unless you give the state the idea they need to inspect it, nobody's ever going to look at it.
yeah newyorker, thats what brought this up, my car is already registered but Im guessing that it must be by the frame/ engine # since it dosent match the serial number. I know this is normal but since ive dealt w/ bad #s before, I would really like to cover all my bases. any one out there ever see this stamped frame #? jeff
ok, just incase this post ever gets pulled up as a search, The #'s do exist! theyre stamped in the rear frame area, drivers side, between the kickup and the rear spring shackle (pull the tire, and start scrubbing). Best part is, that # matches my paper work. jeff
Strange that it would be registered that way. You're lucky because I'm sure there are a lot of cars floating around either with swapped tags, or just running under a registration that has nothing to do with the car itself.
