Alright I have the 6 volt system in my 1954 Ford Customline still, and everything seems to work very well, but i really want a radio in the car, as it has a factory radio delete. I know restrosound doesn't make a radio for a 6 volt system, but if i were to get a power reducer to drop the voltage from 12 volts to 6 volts to safely run a radio in my car, is there a radio retrosound makes that would fit the stock hole in the dash? i like their products. and would love to NOT cut the dash up.

anybody else running an aftermarket radio in their cars, with a 6 volt system?

i need some help and advice here, its really boring driving a stone cold quiet car and not having tunes!

Nobody here has any advice? Surely someone's got a different radio than stock in these cars

I don't have a radio per se, but I have a small $25 off of Amazon amplifier (made by Boss IIRC) hidden under my dash. It uses an aux input so I use it with either my iPod or a portable Sirius radio.

'54 is by itself in Ford radio design, 52-53 cars have a different dash and the radios do not interchange.

A voltage "reducer" would only work if you were trying to install a 6V item on a 12V system, there are products for that. You'd need to step the 6V up to 12V to play a modern radio, and you'd also have to reverse the polarity since your car has positive ground.

There's a company called Redirad (hope I'm spelling that right) that will let you play MP3's and FM and such through a stock 6V radio, doesn't show, but you'd need a functional original radio to make it work.

Lots of guys will leave the radio delete, run power to an amplifier so they can plug in an MP3 or portable radio and use speakers in the car, but you'll have issues using 6V positive ground.
