    Gas seems to shoot out of the modern small diameter pump nozzles quite a bit faster than it did out of the larger diameter ones they had when our old cars/trucks were young. Most of mine seem to want to spill over....

    anyways, good to hear it's working. Did you ever figure out what's wrong with the sender? float not floating?

    @squirrel No sir. Never did figure it out. The float on the old sending unit was floating, but like you said, something was grounding out whenever it was actually installed in the tank—damnedest thing. These sending units aren't exactly high-tech, haha, so you'd think it would've been easy to find any issues. Ghosts in the machine I guess. Thanks again for all of your help!

    Glad you found the problem! As far as filling the tank goes, I always just listen to the sound as I fill the tank. You can tell when it is just about full because of the change (higher pitched?) and I just stop it then. Not sure if mine would automatically shut off or not since I have never tried it.

    Check for the sending unit possibly hitting a baffle in the tank that would prevent it from moving.

    @simplestone Good suggestion. Thanks!

    Thanks, @goldmountain . The new sending unit seems to be working, but I'll keep your suggestion in mind if I have issues with it again
