I want to know if that olds center would fit the buick too. Id certainly try it.
    Reaching for the popcorn!

I may be going this route soon.
    Thinking of using truck arms.

Found an easy DIY front mount idea in this thread...starting around post 36

  6. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1451963035.562908.jpg started shaving my firewall! But first labeling all wore as I pull them from the fuse block at the access panel which will be no more!

Also been playing with a bunch of colors at the paint shop! Think I found the green! With a pearl white roof and white under the molding.. I got excited and had to spray a quarter panel. It's no where near ready for paint or was it prepped. Just had to see it on the car! ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1451963175.197361.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1451963198.492670.jpg

Also got my bumpers and grille pulled from the 54 prts car! ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1451963233.293078.jpg

That green will bring out the body lines nicely. Good flip flop in the pic.

  11. Thanks dude. I'm hoping I can swap thirds on the Axkes I have. I just got the motor back from the machine shop and am going to adapt a th400 but I wanna keep the same lug pattern as I'm keeping stock front suspension.

Who knows ? Might be better off swapping rears .. Get some height adjustment (if need be ) you can also do an s10 4x4 Which might be cheaper ?

I have some doubt that this will work.
The center may bolt to the housing but the axles will give you some trouble.
The buick uses c clips at the spider gears, where as the olds uses pressed bearings at the axle flange.
Not saying it cant be done
But it could be a horror show.

The only chance you have is if the spider gear sets will swap over. Again im doubtful.
Maybe the gurus can chime in here.

If it used C-clips, wouldn't it be a back cover access? Both are drop pig styles, so I think they would both have axle retention at the outer bearing flange, just wondering?

  16. I'll let you know what I end up doing, if I try it.

  17. I'm gonna tear into them next week and find out.

A friend of mine used a 71-87 Chevy pickup rearend in his '55 Buick to keep the same bolt pattern and it fit real nice although his car is a Roadmaster so I'm guessing it's wider to start with. The bigger bodied '58 Edsels had a smooth back 9" with 5 on 5" pattern, might be a bit harder to find but could be an option.

Love the green color, can't wait to see this one come together.

  19. Really like where you are headed here. These very rare tu-door post cars are so cool. Thanx for keeping the 3-pc. back window. I wrecked my Dad's favorite 51 Rivera at 15 and he was not happy. Dig the green/white combo. Rock on bro, sweet build

  20. Thanks I'll keep that as an option! Yeah a roadmaster is the same size as the cadillac's.. I have a few axles at my shop but all wrong lug pattern! I'll keep searching if my 3rd member swap doesn't work..

  21. Thanks! It looks so much better IMO with the 3 peice window! I bet your pops was mad! Haha

  22. Love the "proposal" shot. Could not resist sharing it on FB, with a close friend. He recently bought a '56 Cadillac and gave it to his live in girlfriend. They are a cute couple. Maybe this will push him over the edge.
    Love your Buick project too.!!

  23. Thanks! My 55 has been my dream car and I always wanted to have it as the car me and my bride drive off in. So since I knew my Buick was going to now be that car since it's closer to being finished I used it for the proposal. She thought we were taking Christmas pictures but really I was secretly video taping the proposal.

Great thread. Alot of good tips and ideas i may use in the future. Subscribed.

    Have a 52 4dr Special.
Im in the process of working out the build I will be starting come winter.
I was going to start with a chop but being 4 door and pretty tidy currently I have decided to do everything under the car and throwing in a 401 or 425 nailhead.

once I have a better idea of the way I will be going I will be starting up a thread here as well.

I've got a truck 12 bolt under my 54. If you decide to go that route, I could give you the skinny on what you need to do.
