Working on my 52 hardtop and have reached a stumping point for me. When doors are opened, with glass up or down, there is a piece of stainless where the top of the glass would go. It is supposed to pop up and out of the way when you open the door and pop back down when you close the door, kind of like a metal seal at the top of the door/window. One side works OK, drivers side doesn't but I can pop it up and down by hand. Naturally the door has closed on it a number of times and it doesn't quite work right (hitting it with a bigger hammer hasn't helped either). Anyone know what these strange pieces of stainless are called and what the theory of operation is. I'd just pop them out but I'm pretty sure that will leave a gap at the top of the window since there is no door frame around it. I plan to keep the windows down all summer for cruising since I can't afford to replace the glass right now and it's a cool look with no windows except the wings on the side.

They are called "flipper bars" And yes, if you remove them, there would be a gap there. You can try and find them in junk yards, but they will probably be as bad as yours. Try giving the tri five chev resto companies a call, they might have the springs needed to rebuild them, (this is usually what the problem is) I heard there is a guy rebuilding these, but i never heard a name
