Well, I am in the middle of my new Mustang II style front clip install. There was quite a bit of fab to be done just to get the clip width correct and the frame rails done. (This could be a reason I never see them done on this year) My issue now is finding an oil pan that is going to clear the crossmember as my flathead oil pan is a center sump. Does anyone have any info, or pics of a 52-54 Mustang II install running a flathead? I've looked around alot and haven't been able to find anything. Its looking as though I may have to fab my oil pan to fit. Sure is going to be nice to lay frame, stop with discs and cruise on pillows though.
Looks like a clean installation. I'm curious, though... Why did you decide to widen the crossmember? Let us know how you solve the oil pan problem, okay? Eric
Well, I got some more pics of the job that is being done on my front end. We are pretty much ****oned up with the front half. Alot more work than anyone thought, and is looking really nice. I looked everywhere and couldn't come up with a single person that had a 52 with a Mustang II clip running a flathead and bags. Lots of 53-54's lots of 350's 302'2 and the like, lots of S-10 clips, etc. We solved the oil pan problem by sectioning the original oil pan to clear the cross member. This car is going to lay frame and then some. Everything looks very tidy, and I am very happy with the way things are turning out. Fully custom and I'm into it! I'll keep posting some pics as they come. Thanks to everyone at San Diego Rod and Custom- these guys know their ****! 4t6ford- Rack extensions are readily available 1" on each side.
That is really looking good! I really like the way the motor mount was built. I don't think I've ever seen it done that way before. Makes a lot of sense. I also like the way the overlapping rails have been plug welded in addition to the end welds, which look to be curved. Looks like it'll be plenty strong. Hopefully you'll be including an anti-sway bar. I know that a lot of bagged cars don't use them, for whatever reason, but I hope your builder is as much a believer in them as I am. Your project is getting interestinger and interestinger as it progresses. Keep up the good work! Eric
