It's a pretty clean design, aside from that front bumper. I think it'd look much better without it. I wonder what he was thinking on that, maybe just safety regulations?
@Ryan That is indeed, one of the most radical/cool/tasteful/kick ass rig's, that I have ever seen. That has got to have @Moriarity drooling and planning on how to obtain it! Thanks for posting that. Thanks from Dennis.
Hemmings had a article about it if you hadn't read it. https://www.hemmings.com/stories/ca...-supersonic-pataray-led-a-tortured-existence/
That's a hell of a great story, about the history of this amazing machine. Thanks for posting that @JohnLewis .
It was at Pebble Beach with other failed cars from the fifties, spent my time there looking at the good stuff.
Oh man that's a killer back story. And this is pretty cool looking. Maybe still a bit much, but the front bumper looks much more at home on it.
Thanks Rolleiflex, First time I've seen that car in color. Was Joel Thorne connected with this one at one time?
Ray Fagol bought the Cast iron engine design from Crosley when they went tits up. He also started another little company you may have head of, Peterbuilt Trucks.
I think I saw something about the front triple-plane bumper being aerodynamic. It's not, and I'm sure he knew that, but I think he wanted it to look aerodynamic. The triple-plane bumper idea is very cool. The only thing that would make it better is if it were painted gloss black (to ~hide it) instead of chromed (where it's a gawdy ornament).
That's so effed up. But it doesn't make sense. The Fageol 100 was built in 1916, so that does make sense. The Fageol Supersonic was built in 1938. By the way, it was propane-powered! (Louis' dream car was powered by an all aluminum propane power plant producing 275 hp. Fageol designed the ultra-modern engine specifically for LPG-liquefied petroleum gas.)

Actually, Ray Fageol built Fageol trucks. In the late 30's the company was in financial trouble and a guy named Peterman bought the company. That was the start of Peterbuilt trucks.
I came across the Fageol car a few years ago while looking for something else. The model number’100’ doesn’t appear in Fageol ads. Sources vary as to how many were made and why production ended. I’ve seen references that claimed that 25 were intended to be produced. Two were completed, one or two more were rumored. The Fageol 100 and the tractors & trucks that followed were made by William & Frank Fageol. The Fageol Supersonic was made by Ray Fageol, the son of Lou Fageol, who made the Fageol Twin Coach buses. I don’t know how Lou was related to William & Frank.
