Have I got it right in my head that a 53-56 F100 Steering Box will somewhat easily fit in Model A rails after some trimming of the mount?

Also that the 56 is a little shorter and better fits?

    Thanks

  2. the F1 box is the one you want for an AV8, the steering shaft comes out closer to the bottom of the box and gives more room for the V8

  3. I can't find it right now, but I've read that the F100 will put it in the stock tank mount and the F1 will be too low?. It's all about where the steering shaft comes out of the box (top or middle).

I did find this in my files:

  4. Had F100 in a 29 glass car. Drove like a dream. Friend did the work to make it fit

  5. F100 is good in a banger. And can use the stock tank mpunt. It's larger than a f1. And would be hard to fit with a v8. F1 is good for v8 car and you can use the stock tank mount with one of the 2 inch drop spacers available from several suppliers.

I think Limeworks makes the 2" column drop spacer and it's carried by many vendors, including Roadster Supply.

And Chadillac sells an F1 flange replacement kit in the Hamb classifieds for adapting to a Model A frame. Here's a link to my write-up when I did it recently.

Thanks all. The F100 appealed as it appears I would just have to trim the mount but if it wont fit I guess its going to be F1.

Be aware that the F-100 has a pitman with a tapered hole for the drag link on only the later years. Kinda hard to find those pitman arms as everyone wants them. And they only fit in one place, not clockable.

The F-1 box uses the same size splines as all passenger Fords and light trucks from 32-48. And if you file out four little splines inside, you can clock it infinitely. And all have the taper for the rod end except the 33-34’s.
