i have recently got a 1953 buick special which i plan on turning into a kustom. i plan to chop it 4or5". my question is if i slant the b-pillars forward would i still be able to make the rear windows roll up and down. also I'm having and a problem with my blinkers not working and one of my break light constantly stays on and the other works. I've been looking for a wiring diagram and i can't find it on here. does anyone know if there's one on here or where i can get one.
Special cut glass and serious engineering maybe you could make the windows roll up. Maybe if you could make them come up at an angle as a whole, it would work? By the way, I've chopped these cars before and it is involved but I know you'll do fine
just some unsolicited advice, you may want to start cutting at 3" and work your way down, 5" is getting mail slot esq.
5" - Wow, good luck with that. hope that this is not your first chop. be sure to figure out front and rear glass before doing anything. next side glass. wiring should be easy.
Don't touch front and back window size if you can help it. The back side windows can be made to work but it's a pain & costly. I just did a 6" chop on a car and the owner decided it wasn't that important to have working back windows when he found out the cost so we just glued them into the window channel and done.
Ive never chopped anything but cant you make the glass in the rear quarters move backwards as they move down by making a custom runner? kinda like the pic.
I'm with Hotdamn on the chop - 4-5 is gonna be WAY too much. I had a same year Caddy that was over-chopped by the previous owner.... I'd have rather had the car UN-chopped. The idea is a lower, sleeker look, not to look like a cartoon. It's all about PROPORTIONS. For the windows, look at a tri-five Chevy rear, they curve down at an ante as they roll down. Here's the track;
thank you everybody for all the great feed back and kind comments... i was thinking of a 4"-5" inches cause i had marked the car with 4" tape then stood back and took a picture then cut it out to get an idea and the same with 5". i had liked the 5"... but then again that is on paper. I do like the way that one with the 4" looks... I'm still in the research part but when i do start working on it, I'll make sure to post pictures. thanks again for all the great information.
5" is a damn heavy chop. I would start 3" and go from there.. The more of a chop, the more fun it is to get glass to work also unless you split that roof in half....Im not sure what the regulators look like in your buick but in some all you have to do is rotate the regulators to the new angle and make some guide channels. not as hard as it sounds.
The thing is..... on a 5 plus inch chop,you will run out of rear/ C pillar altogether literally and visually.... BTW more is hardly ever better on chops. also you will end up havin to tilt that rear glass so hard it will end up raising the rear of glass and ends up looking like it has a raised hump between the glass opening and trunk lid. a sedan as shown above is actually 2" taller than a hardtop of same year so it matters whaich you start with....
