If I remember correctly it was a purpose-built race car entered by a Mexican team. Incorporates many bits from various makes, including Lincoln and Ford. The greenhouse was a cut down cockpit canopy from a Vultee BT-13 Valiant basic flight trainer.

What a GREAT freakin thread!!! Always been interested in the 50's Porsches as my mother worked for a dealership in Miami that was the main importer of Porsches into Florida back then. Son of that dealer raced Porsches in the states until being injured at Sebring. The photo spread of the other Panamericana cars is fabulous as well.

Thought you might like to see these. I did some research and these are off C.D. Evans' entry each year. My father bought them at Hershey probably 40 years ago. He only wanted to buy one, but the seller wouldn't break up the set. Still hanging in our garage. Any other info on Evans would be greatly appreciated.

Oh my goodness! I just read the entire fascinating thread.. Whatever happened with the
Jacqueline Evans car? Did she drive both? Did the guy in Mexico have the original car? Were two cars claiming the same chassis???? What happened?

Love this stuff. One question, when I go to the link for photos, I only get one page or so - not nearly 200 pix. What am I doing wrong? Gary
PS recently seen at the Revs museum... what a car. Check out the gigantic fuel tank in the back seat!.

You're not doing anything wrong. I'm not sure what the deal is but Google and Life seem to have severed their relationship, at least partially. Sadly, that archive isn't complete anymore and isn't searchable by photographer's name, subject, etc.

Great article! Does anyone know of all the original Lincolns used for the race? I would think the information would be out their somewhere showing the VINs and which ones are still in existence. I have a second Capri and the wife and I were discussing whether to go custom or something a little easier like a Tribute car (as many dents and dings as it has you'd think it was beat to death for 2000 miles of dirt road racing!).
