Sounds like you have it pretty well figured out on the day job for pay/ time in the garage to create thing. And still being able to do an occasional bit of work for someone else when things are right works too.
Like a lot of others on here I'll be watching for your next "look at what I'm building now" thread so I can learn a few more things to use on my own projects. I think I have most of your chop threads saved for those "how the hell should I do that" moments on my own rig.

Just a side note. 50 years ago I thought I wanted to be a mechanic and I spent three years in vocational classes in High school and two years of trade school. Then after I got out of the Army I worked in shops for a number of years. It took a long time to decide what I really wanted to do was build my hot rods and not work on someone else's car all the time. I'd rather create than repair.

Good to see your keeping Delmo busy! Otherwise I think he'd be spending all his time pruning that beard haha.

Keep up the good work guys.

  10. Ian,

A really talented local guy worked a day job in the refinery as a boiler maker, he kept at a small side gig doing custom wrought iron work and for "other" interests restored old brit bikes. After 6 years of "leaning into it", his bills were paid off (from the daqy job paycheck) right after that the side gig really took off with a couple local architects selling his gates/fences/entryways/awnings..... that was 10 years ago. Now he spends everyday in the shop, when he gets tired of the iron work and trip hammer racket he will change up and spend the rest of the day on the other side of his shop on a vintage ducati.

Right on man work your plan!

What are you going to do with the fron window, cut it yourself ?

  23. I wish I'd had a little forewarning before I saw those finished pics outside the garage. Would have been nice to slide a condom on before looking. Could a saved a little mess here on this end. Love it Ian. Excellent work.

I will be honest, those years I liked but never thought of buying one. Now I want to buy one, drop it off with you and let you work the magic.
