One of my C.C. member is haveing an issue. He has a 1953 Chevy Deluxe. It was orginaly a 6cyl car. He has just dropped a small block 350 into it. The issue he is haveing is that he can not find header to fit the application. All the headers he has tried hit the steering box on the drivers side. he has tried block huggers & they also hit. Does anyone know of a header kit that will fit his car. he can not get a do-it-yourself kit..no welder avaliable at this time.

I had one suggestion but do not know it it would work. he could take some headers like the ones pictured below and mount them backwards with the exhaust port facing the front of the engine.

Any info you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.

I have searched on here and only found one other post that mentions this problem. but it did not give a good answer. one sugestion was to make a new mounting plate and move the steering box over. My buddy said the block huggers need about 1 mor inch to clear

well...I found some headers..How come everytime you research & search & look & cant find the answer & and as soon as you post a question you find the answer..lol

Sanderson Headers make a header kit that works with the stock steering in the 49-54 chevy's. In case anyone else needs this part number its CC50-P. there $245.00 for the set. the right side is a block hugger the left side comes to the back and go[IMG]es around the steering box.

Sanderson makes a header that fits. it really has to twist in the steering side to clear. I bet that ****er heated my oil filter. my oil was probably 500 degrees.

fenderwell headers are out there that would work, depending on the style of car you are building

there are cast exhaust out there that work. just a few, I don't know what they are.

one more benefit of MII suspension... just about any exhaust manifold you can bolt to your heads will clear everything.

    that's it^^^^^^

see where the flange where you bolt up the pipe? that is supposed to spin alll the way around so you can put the bolts where you want... it hits the block. that's how tight they are.

the oil filter is right next to the collector. I had really high temps in the engine compartment. my dash got hot inside the car if I drove around for a bit..

i used the sandersons block huggers..stock 53 box..maybe you didnt mock the engine up in the correct possition for them to work?

mine fit and work fine..they are the block hugger headers ..not sure if those you show above with the rear dump set up are them? could be..

rethink your engine placement? want pictures? PM me

I have talked with many people that have run the Sanderson headers and they have all had good luck. I bought a set to use and then I decided that I really want the look of manifolds on my engine. I know that the performance will decrease but It is what I really want for the look of my car. Not to spam but I have them for sale if you are interested. P.M. me if you want.

  10. Try ****** or heddmon engine swap headers. The SBC in the old chebby is a popular swap.
