Hello , I'm no trying to disrespect the guy selling the "1953 Chevy black primer " already chopped , which I think looks like a great car to start with , but I have to ask why is it still up for grabs , am I missing something ? Is sorting out the glass issue that problematic ? Somebody help me understand it . Again no disrespect to the owner ,***** I wish I knew what I was was doin , cause I would love to have that*****er bagged & on the road !
Well, I'm one of the '54 Chevy guys, but I haven't been following what's for sale. Of course there are more then one way to skin a cat, but I would never do a car that way. A chopped car with no glass is a red flag to me because many people underestimate what it takes to chop a car properly. And some people overestimate their skill level. Many times they don't find out there is a problem till its time to put in glass and then they can't fit any. You are then left with fixing someone's possibly very shoddy work. It's not a deal breaker, but it is a red flag and I would personally very carefully scrutinize the work before purchase, or get a good enough deal to make the hassle worth it. I****ume you are talking about this one? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1953-chevy-bel-air-chopped.1015899/
I chop cars, but NEVER without glass. As the others have mentioned, you build the chop around fitting the glass. If a seller claims that he has the glass, but it it "needs installed" (which should read needs to be installed, if you speak English), that is a HUGE red flag. Just install the glass. I hear people make excuses all day long why they cannot follow-through. I'm over it. If there is no glass, then it was not present when the chop was done, that is not a red flag. That is a deal breaker.
if you are talking about the black one in the link low budget provided it looks like the back glass has been lowered into the package tray area and the frame around it has not been cut, so in theory, stock glass should fit fine. the thing is with rear glass like that if you did not brace the rear glass area before you cut it out and reinstalled it there is a good chance it got twisted and the glass will never fit right.
Non-ready to drive projects are a hard sell anyway. And the glass thing means the possibility of a huge amount of rework. If they have glass that fits, installing it would be a day's work and up the value by thousands. Occasionally there are ads for cars that say "could be running with a day's work". If that's a true statement, it's foolish on the seller's part. A car that only needs a fuel pump will only have half of it's normal value because a buyer can't hear it run, feel the trans shift, and will have to tow it home.
