It started off as a throw-away 4 door sedan, with the Hemi going into a hot rod. The body was in to good of shape to s****. I took about 21 inches from behind the front door and welded up everything. Since the attached pictures was taken, I "Z" the front, behind the steering box the width of the frame, dropping the front 6 inches and lower the rear by 3 inches. When I rolled the car out it look just to short. I plan on keeping the short doors from the 4 door, section the body 3 to 4 inches and extending the front, just behind the "A" frames, bring the front fenders, hood and front wheels out by 6 inches. My goal is to created a low, lean machine. The power train corporates a 273 V8, Auto transmission (904), with a Ford Maverick, V8 rear end (units installed). What do you guys think? Keep going with the changes or quit now while I am ahead and can drive the car.
That is a actual picture, I am not sure why the back window was blanked off. It looked real good when I did it on paper. Right now it is apart (again) and stuff in the back of the garage. I will try to find more pictures.
It would look better with the top chopped. Sectioning it will make it look worse. If you can't photoshop it, take a picture of the side view, make a bunch of copies and cut the picture up. That will give you a better idea of what your modifications will look like. It has the look of a factory 3 window, and they look good.
This was the design that I was after, but only in a 5 window, and like I wrote, it did look better on paper. This is what happens when you work out of a small garage without the ability of viewing the entire vehicle at one time. Another point, is that I do have doors from a two (2) door, but the doors when installed on my "dream turn nightmare" extended all the way back to the rear fender. Chopping the top is not an issue, but I would hate to make another "across the roof" cut and have to deal with the neat three piece back window. I will get some better pictures when I get home this weekend. Right now it is on the back burner, until I make up my mind.
A little chop might be order. Too much and I feel it would look silly, but then again, most serious chops look silly. Photoshop/paper cut is you're best bet. Staying tuned in.
You have something going there but the roof kills it. I'm thinking maybe cut the roof off and make a sleeker shaped Carson style top covered in vinyl top material. And chop the windshield while you are at it. The pic above of the coupe shows a good direction to go in.
Like you said, it was a throw-away so whats not to like as-is? Although it looks a bit odd at this point so have many production cars....we'll get used to it. A couple better pics are in order however..... .
