My original 6V ignition switch on my 1953 Ford Customline failed and I am looking for a quality replacement that fits as the original did. Would appreciate any advice. My car is now 12V

Thank you. Was it a direct fit as I want to keep as original as possible

Just my personal opinion.....Standard Products used to be a good product USA made. However, if you read the Amazon small print this switch is made in China. For better results I would rather pay a little more and buy an NOS or NORS USA made switch. There are several offered now on EBAY.

Agree but can the original stand 12 volts?

The same Ford part # is used for '52-and later switches which would include both 6 and 12 volt cars so using it on a 12 volt car should not be problem. I know lots of people who have updated their cars from 6 to 12 volts but I never heard of anyone having to change their ignition switch as part of the process.

6 volt would have heavier contacts if there was a difference which there probably isn’t.

The switches do not care if they are 6 or 12 volts, this is from the "Sticky" read this ! https://watsons-streetworks.com/a-current-topic/ Installing relays to take the load off your electrical system is key, I used the 60-70 volt relay on the ACC terminal and adding relays to the headlights made them much brighter, I also used relays on the electric fuel pump and electric fan circuits.

Real NOS Fomoco https://www.ebay.com/itm/404863368158? When I did my re-wire and added the relays, I used a Duralast switch from Autozone, notice the years these interchange, the Ebay unit has the matching key and tumbler.

Found a lock cylinder with key at O’Rilley’s Auto Parts for $9.95. Good quality and overnight delivery. Now back together and running. Car ships to Washington State next week. Gave all 3 of my street rods to my kids. This is the last one. A pleasure to see them enjoy the cars before I go and to know that they will remain part of the “family.”
