I am in the same boat. My 53 (glide car) is tached out at 50MPH. If I got to the 79-80 Camaro rear end, will it keep the OE bolt pattern? What driveshaft spline fo I need for a glide?
I have never heard about this "taller tire" theory before, does it actually work to provide lower RPM's at higher speeds with 4:11 gears? If so how tall are we talkin'?
Of course it does, if you know anyone with a jeep or truck ask them what it did when they put those big tires on. Chances are they're saving up some money for lower gears now. You'll have to do some measuring to determine how tall you can go, just don't go wider, that eats power (as does the taller tire). And remember, the taller the tire, the taller the *** end, every 2" of tire diameter equals 1" of "rake". So if you like how it sits, remember you'll have to do some lowering, so remember this when measuring for room. 1" of tire protrusion, and 1" of suspension drop to compensate for height equals 2" of travel lost inside the wheel well.
I was readind through this thread and decided to take a look at your album so I could get a better look at your 53. I thought it looked familiar, and when I saw that you were in Muscle Shoals I realized that I saw your car at the Athens cruse in last Saturday. I was the hairball checkin out your ride while you getting ready to leave. You were saying something about a long drive back to Muscle Shoals.
