Hi Guys, Ran across a 1954 239 interceptor today car is completely original. the only thing changed since new is the tires. It is a moredoor in tropical green, been sealed up since 67, Amazing condition was built by ford for police car but used by a parts company as a company car. all records are there for it down to the inspection stickers saved from each year. man who has it is second owner . Is it rare and is there much value because of the 239 interceptor, Was'nt 54 first year for the 239. Thanks in advance for any info. Tobey
i dont think there's much of a premium for the interceptor. like paul said, the interceptor would have the merc 256 y-block. there's a nice looking 2 door sedan cop car in wyoming (?) on craigslist now for about 8500 or so. nice car. i can't imagine the 4 door would bring that much. and yes, 54 was the first and only year for the 239 yblock. in '55, they gave up on it and offered 272 and 292.
The 239 stayed around thru 1955 in the F-100 Trucks,I had one for nine years and wish now I would have kept it.
Other than different sized, hard to find cam bearings, they're really no different, basic designwise, than any other Y-Block. Actually, they're a pretty thrifty and peppy engine with that little 2 bbl and decent exhaust manifolds, that is, no arm burner cross over pipe.
i had forgotten that jeff. i dont think i've ever seen one though. my 239 definitely woke up a bit with thunderbird manifolds and duals all the way back. not sure i'd call it 'peppy' but it gets me there.
