On this balancer, I have located 0 Top dead center. The only marks on this balancer are from zero to the letters ATDC and they go up to 10° after top dead center, why are there no markings on the advance side?
Probably because the timing adjustments were on the timing tab on the motor,,, Chrysler did that on some of their motors...
Unfortunately not on this pre-new look forward era car. Here’s a picture of some 8 inch timing tape between 10- and 10+ which I finally found the 10° after mark. But there’s nothing before it. so in order to verify my timing being all in under 50° I’m gonna have to remove my harmonic balancer which is about 2 1/2 hours worth of work just to get to the damn thing may even have to remove the radiator so I can put a puller on it if it’s a press on and then take those increments of measurements and add them all the way up to 60° so I can see my total and make marks to go with it or apply the correct timing tape
In my old motors manual it shows a line on the damper with 0 and lines to 10 but the 10 is to the left of the zero and that would make it to the advance side To clarify the 0 and 10 are on the tab 55 and 56 show to be different
Doesn’t that have 10 before and 10 after marked ,,,,looks like it to me ? Lines are in 2 degree increments,,,,,each way from DC stamped on the damper . Also,,,,,use a timing light that has an advance wheel,,,,you can check total advance with reading at the Zero mark . Tommy
Yes it does. It just took a lot more cleaning to find it. And I found that the 7 1/2 inch pulley tape is accurate to within hundredth of an inch so I’m going with that.
