Hi I have been reading forms here for a long time and I am a huge fan. I am the owner of a 74 Eldorado for over 20 years. The Eldo is currently in the middle of an engine rebuild. Also I am the new owner of a 54 Bel Air. I love both the cars and can't wait to get them where I want them.
Hi & welcome. The 54 with the 235 is a great start as those are really good engines. Parts are avilable easily from several different suppliers. The engine in my avatar is a 235 with a 0.060 bore, Clifford 268 grind cam with solid lifters. They have the 264 grind for hydraulic lifters also. I used the Clifford dual intake with two 2 barrel Weber carbs & their shorty tube headers. With the Clifford intake the Fenton headers will not work as their intakes are wider & deeper and the Fenton's will not clear the intake Added a Langdon HEI Distributor. Works & runs great for me. Post some photo's wen you can as we love pictures. Jimmie
Jimmie : Thank you for the welcome. I love your set up, very cool. Is it on your '46 Chevy? I am going to starting looking for parts to make this engine my own, and your reply was a big help. I will grab some pics as soon as I can and get them up on this board. Thank you and have a good day
That photo is the engine in my 46 coupe. Most of my parts in the restoration came from the following suppliers. For restoration - www.chevsofthe40s.com www.thefillingstation.com https://newportwipers.com/ If you decide to upgrade to elect wipers these are the best. http://www.vintageair.com/ If you decide to install an AC then these are the best. For hop up parts - http://www.cliffordperformance.net/ http://www.langdonsstovebolt.com/ Also found some new old stock parts on Ebay. Good luck with your build. Jimmie
Wow Jimmy thank you for everything your information is amazing I love your car, I bet it drives like a dream. I will keep you up to date with all of my progress, but you will have to be patient with me. Time and money are a premium! I have electric wipers and a new wiring harness in the garage and as soon as I can get some time time I will install the parts.
I would love to have kept it original but the body and interior of the car was heavily modified when I bought it. This car needs just a little custom to the engine bring everything together.
Hi. My 46 has been in the shop for quite some time for several things & about all they had done was strip everything down for the needed repairs (disable the car) and then basically lost interest. At least I was not paying in advance for any work. Got tired of that & picked it up a couple of weeks ago and moved it to another shop Wed. of last week and they are making great strides finishing the needed repairs. I know how to fix everything myself but at age 79 my body just does not cooperate with working on cars anymore. I am going to pull it out of the shop next Wed as out local AACA club in Victoria is hosting the annual Texas Tour this year. It will be Thursday - Sunday. Will work & drive the tour and then put it back in to finish up with some paint touch up & new shocks. This Coupe will be my daily driver when I get this all done. They just finished the complete rewire and install of the Vintage air unit yesterday. I have one of the original Fulton clamp on bumper trailer hitches from the era of the 40's and they are making & installing a brace from it back to rear cross member to take any stress off of the bumper. I have a 4' x 7' teardrop trailer (1 person sleeper) that I will pull with it on some of my overnight trip events. When I get thru with the car I will paint trailer body to match car. I purchased the coupe in 2013 and previous owner did the paint job it & a new interior in 1990. The original engine thrashed in late 2014 & I replaced with the 235. I am now just upgrading what he did not do then. The body is original and still rust free. Jimmie
