Putting a 350 SBC in my 1954 bel air.. Can I use the stock radiator or do I need a different size or type?.

I have an aluminum radiator from eBay, KKS brand I believe and two electric pusher fans. I live in AZ and drive the car year round, hasn't gotten above 190. 20191117_170115.jpg

Back when I had my 54 2Dr HT it had a 350 and 200 4R Transmission. Used a 55 Chevy radiator and stock mechanical fan, didn't have a shroud or any electric fans. Ran 190 degrees all the time, even on hot 100 degrees plus summer days. I think 55 Chevy and 54 are the same radiators.

A lot of it depends on the condition of your radiator.
If it is original it is 66 years old. That alone may mean that it is not going to be in the best shape.

If I were spending the money on an engine swap the radiator is not a place to go cheap. Can make or break your conversion.

  7. You will be fine. I ran mine for years before I sold the car. No issues on even the hottest days

If it's working good now, I would do the swap and see how it does with the sbc. I have done many
hot rods, replacing 6 cyl. Chevy's with small blocks, and never had an overheating issue with the stock
    radiators. Try and see.

Get yourself a cement mixing tub. Fill it with water and some simple green, attach a vibrating sander to the side. We put the radiator on some styrofoam blocks and turn on the sander for about 6 hours... I will be clean. If you don’t like simple green put in a gallon of vinegar. But rinse it afterwards.
We put a SBC In a 53 in 1964 and never had a problem with the stock radiator.
