1954 Cheverolet Pick-up Question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ThunderRocket, Jan 12, 2005.

  1. Will the open tranny/rear end in my 1958 Apache fit the earlier truck?

My mother gave me her '54 and i need to dispose of the rusty '58.

It ran, but is so rusty a door fell off! [IMG]

What do i need to keep from the '58.

The rear should be pretty close, get out a tape measure and double check but I'm pretty sure it will. The tranny depends on what motor the Apache has if it's an inline six it should work fine. Also the wheel bases might be different (Depending on what box you have) so you might have to get the driveshaft cut.

It should fit,but your 54 is a closed driveline, so you will need the 58 tranny. Dont forget that the spring center bolts are offset approx 2 inches from the centerline of the rear axle. So you will need to make a set of offset plates to locate the axle Jay [IMG]

  4. Both are short bed 1/2 ton, with I-6 and 3sp.

So Jim, to put the '58 Rearend in the '54 the center bolts are off?
    What about a spring change?

I don't want to wish i still had somthing I needed. [IMG]
