Will a power brake booster and m/c from a 1978 El Camino be enough for the front disc brake swap with the camaro rotors/ disc on a 1954 Chevy?
Yes... it should. I´m using a mc/booster from an german opel, Cutlass discs up front and Nova rear wheel cylinders, and function very well. Nearly got in an accident some days ago, and police in the back had to pay for paintdamage on my car. They never belived i should stop so quick, and get out of the trouble in front of me......
Thats a trip! I just didnt want to have to need them one day and ...well you ever drive a car with 4 wheel drums and have to ride the brakes? ( and get them hot?)....and try to stop? I since keep extra draws in the glove box. Thanks, I'll have to just see then huh? "Opel...German for Ford!" Thanks alot for your answer...if anybody else has a yea or nay lemme know.
Mark, what year calipers are you using? I'm going to assume you are using the same ones that came with the Camaro. If so these are probably the '2 1/2"' or '70mm' ones. Same as B-Bods. Depending on what year the Camaro is. FWIW the 78-88 A/Gs used a smaller 60mm caliper. Will the M/C work, yes, but for the larger caliper the larger bore of the B-body M/C would be better in moving fluid and pushing those pistons out. Also the later 77-90 B-Bods use the angled mount just like the 78-88 A/Gs A popular mod with the 78-A/Gs would be to use F or B bod brakes. Heres a link to that upgrade http://tech.oldsgmail.com/sus_bbrake.php
