HELLO , I HAVE A 1954 CHEVY 2DR. SEDAN . THE SET UP SO FAR IS A 350/700R4 . I AM USING THE WALTON ENGINE/TRANSMISSION MOUNTS. MY QUESTION IS :I WANT USE THE LOKAR DOUBLE BEND 23" SHIFTER ,BUT WANT MOUNT THE SHIFTER BEFORE TRANS GOES IN . WHICH SHIFTER IS BEST FOR THE SET UP , THE FLOORMOUNT WITH CABLE , THE TAILSHAFT MOUNT , OR THE ONE WITH THE BRACKET WHICH BOLTS TO TOP OF TRANS WITH ROD LINKAGE????? ANYBODY USE THIS SHIFTER , PLEASE HELP , THANKS HAVE GREAT HOLIDAY HAMB ers

  2. can't say for sure, but i would think the tailshaft mount would be too far back and into your seat.

Dont they have a "universal" option with those that mount to your floor pans?

I used the the bracket set up with the rod and it worked fine, but that was with the TCI brackets. I guess it all depends on the clearance you have under floor pan.

Use the Lokar that sits on top of the tranny with the rod bracket. I have a 200 4R in my 51 convertible. I used that set up and it works fine. I have bucket seats and a 63 Impala console. Still the shifter is forward enough that it will clear a stock seat. Also my cars have a tranny cover on the floor that I just needed to make a hole for the shifter to come through. Does the 53 and 54 also have a tranny cover?

You can call lokar to find out what kind of clearance is needed between the trans and the floor for the cable unit. But you will probably need to use the top of trans mount. You won't br able to "mount" the shifter in the car before you put the engine and trans in, but you can predict where it will come through the floor to make an access cover. But you will have to install the engine and trans mounts in the car, then measure fron the trans mount to the pshifter location to open the floor
