Went to see a 54 chevy belair yesterday. The 235 has a blue flame valve cover on it. 77k mile car appears to be original down to the caked on oil.

Did belairs come with the 150hp blue flame 6 or was that only the corvette?

I have had other 54s and the valve covers never said blue flame on them.

Chevrolet used the "blue flame" slogan in their advertising for years, but only put it on two engines, the 136HP hydraulic lifter version of the 235 cu in six used in Powerglide equipped cars from 1953. And the 150HP Corvette six used from 1953 - 55.

The solid lifter 123HP 235 was called Thrift King. It was used in manual trans cars.
