Just thought I'd share an update on the new project I'm working on. I picked up the car in September from a HAMB member. This is what it looked like the day I bought it. It's a 54 Chevy, chopped 3 1/2 inches, 56 Packard Taillights, 53 Chevy frontend molded in, 56 Chevy rear bumper, frenched head lights, shaved handles, frenched plate box, mustang II front end, built 292 w/ 4 speed. So I pulled the car into the garage, threw it on the lift and started working. I pulled the hood and finished welding it up and smoothed everything out. Blocked the whole car down which was pretty darn straight to begin with. Pulled the 4 speed and put in a 350, installed a triangulated four link & installed front and rear air bags. Once all put back together and primed, we built the homemade paint booth. Sanded down the dash & doors and painted them flat cream. Then taped everything up and sprayed three coats of sealer then painted the top titanium pearl and applied two coats of clear. Once the top dryed, taped it up and started spraying the bottom half with 6 coats of heavy metal silver. Once the silver was dry I added my tiki god on the deck lid. Then came the candy green! First coat on. Seven coats later. With the top untapped. Then we added six coats of clear. Now it's time to start putting it together. More pictures to come.
for what its worth from a fellow painter, Dude that is Badasss! looks killer! and to everyone at home, you can acheive greatness with a little patience!!!, a well thought out plan, and a little little luck from the painting godz ;-)
Killer job just like choppedmerc I have seen lots of nice jobs that have came out of a garage. Oh ya how many time you think you ran around that car.
For being a home made paint booth & 30 degrees outside, I think it came out great. I was able to keep the inside of the paint booth @ 72 degrees for the entire day. I did get alittle dust in the clear but I'm certain it will come out when I wet sand it.
That looks amazing, wish I could paint but it just turns out as a runny mess that looks like hell. Please post more pics!!!!
NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! If nobody buys the two front fenders I'm trying to sell I just might find a body and build something like that.
