Cool project & probably rare with air on a 54 Dodge. You should post an intro in that section b4 the Forum Police get ya!
I think the 2 door version is one of the most under-rated body styles of all time. Very clean lines from the factory.
Gorgeous lookin patina on that ride. Love the 54 shape too.....very similar to my 55 Aussie DeSoto. Can't wait to see progress!
My Dad just painted the valve covers and the dash and the wire covers today.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I got my engine in the car today. And i turned the engine over but no oil was coming out of the oil sending unit oil. Do I have to prime the oil pump first or what?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o> </o>
Is this a fresh engine ??? If so you really should have run the pump for a little bit before trying to spin it. This is the only way to fill the filter and the rest of the places where oil really needs to be. I suggest going back and start over. .
Today was a great to working on my car. I start the 241 hemi today and it runs like a top. It is loud because it just has manifolds on it.
I just bought a 1954 Coronet, unfortunately a four door, and I can't wait to get it running. Oh yeah did I mention it has 3 stromberg 97's It needs a little work, mainly a rear trunk pan. However, the hardest part will probably be trying to lower the front end - ANY SUGGESTIONS? Thanks, Kevin
So are you restoring it to stock or customizing it at all? The motor looks good. My buddy Tom 53dodgekustom has a 53 meadowbrook with a rebuilt flat 6. Hes got a hemi like yours too I think.
Actually your picture is pretty much the look I am going for. Currently all of the handles and chrome have been shaved and it is painted suede black. Somebody recently put in a new interior and gauge set (which I am not sure how to tell if it is a 6volt or 12volt setup). I do need headlight buckets and wiper arms though. The car came with an old set of turbine wheels, but I would like to go with red wheels and wide white walls. I will try to post some pictures in my album – I hope it works.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o> </o> Thanks, KevinJ<o></o>
Nice car man I saw it online sometime a go. I got engine in the car and it run good. Now on to the breaks.
Any idea where I can get some heater controls for my '54 Coronet? I have the levers that mount on the drivers side of the dash, but don't have the cables or any of the ***embly that they hook to. There is a small single heater core defrost below the glove box, but that is the only HVAC there. If you have any pictures that would be helpful to. Thanks, Kevin
Can I start my car on 12v battery to the starter and run my 6v system with a series-parallel switch. It starts great with 12v but when i put a 6v battery to it does not turn the engine over that fast. I would like to keep my 6v system.
The 6v-12v series-parallel switch is a bit expensive but works well. I have a web page detailing this switch. http://www.qualityengineeredcomponents.com/?page_id=564 .
Has anyone used this from antique auto battery 6/12 Battery: Wherever a 6 volt battery is now used, you can convert the starting power to 12 volts. Overcomes hard starting problems. Requires no change in electrical system. Complete installation instructions included. Gives 12 volt starting power to older engineered 6 volt starting and charging circuits without rewiring. We have this battery in a group 22(9x6.75x11), group 24(10.25x6.75x11), group 27(12x6.75x11), and group 3E(19x4.5x11) case.
My dad is running a 6v optima battery in his 54 but when we put it in mine it does not turn the engine very fast to start it.
I got it to start on start on 12v and run my 6v optima battery on the my 6v system just running two battery's ran wire to the 12v to the starter then ran the 6v wire to the 6v battery work great all my gauges and lights work.
They never turn over very fast on 6V. They don't have to. If the engine is in good shape and tuned up it will turn over once or twice and start. 6V systems are more touchy about good wiring etc. Make sure the starter cables are the right size, modern 12V cables are too skinny and won't work right, also be sure the connections are clean and tight. Finally if all else fails you may need to have the starter rebuilt. Your car should work fine on 6V same as thousands of other cars did for 50 years.
