BFA8B89B-0288-47FD-A040-01F53A1D0628.jpeg Bottom end on this old 351w was perfect. Looks like E5 heads (not as good as the later E7s as I understand it), and set up for flat tappet cam.

pretty sizable ring ridge means I will be boring it out.

Is there any reason not to bore it out straight to 4.050 or 4.060, as opposed to just 4.030? I guess you kind of limit the ability to rebuild it if it develops a new ring ridge later in its new 4.060 life?

I see that most people go 4.030 with a 4” stroke to get a 408, but I’m thinking 4.060 for 414 sounds better

Got a big honkin’ camshaft for the 408 build.

Its a solid roller. 661/646 lift 258/262 duration 106 LSA

Should make some decent power at high rpm, but probably idle rough. Small price to pay.. :)

Ugh, cam turned out to be for a big block. Sold it, and even made a few bucks :)

Still waiting on my block to get done at Shacklett machine shop in Nashville.

Prolly a good thing you sold it.......pretty healthy for street use (Make that extremely healthy!)
106* LSA = really snotty idle! 661-646 VERY hard on springs.(prolly got the numbers transposed too)
108* LSA should be "max" for a street engine and ONLY with a manual tranny.(or loose convertor.)
60 over will INCREASE your chances of developing over heating problems. 30 over is good
(40 over if cylinder taper is bad)
    IMHO

Well, its three year later. I had that block machine and subsequently sold it. In the interim though, I did put EFI on the car and installed a fuel cell. I struggle these days to maintain interest, but I will circle back one day.
