1954 ford customline swap options.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Custom Dennis Deluxe, Nov 5, 2007.

  1. i know the possibilities are endless. but what exactly can easily swap into my 54 customline. honestly the 239 just doesnt have enough power for me anymore and im looking over my options. i know there are kits for the sbf motors but what else can i jam in there. i have a friend sitting on a 429 caddy motor but i dont wanna make a mission out of this. i appreciate anyones knowledge on this subject
    cheers

An FE motor is a pretty good fit, and not much heavier than the Y-block. Sold parts to a guy that raced one back in the day; small-inch FE, four speed, medium riser heads, stupid RPM (at least for the time), killer gears, AHRA National record, etc.

Having said that, for a streeter, a 410 or so incher with some updates would certainly make your car keep up with traffic. If you are careful, you can probably even get decent, if not stellar, fuel economy. They can even be adapted to a five/six speed or OD automatic if you have the budget and ambition.

  3. well i can get the caddilac motor for short money. and i always dug the torque of the caddys. but im not sure how hard it is to shoehorn in there. the motor is actually still in the car and i can get the complete drivetrain
