Bought some door panels for the '54 from Dennis Carpenter and the misses rolled and pleated them ( on her birthday nonetheless). But I cannot get the handles off., I have a Chevy tool but that is too narrow, Went to the parts house and got a Ford version but it does not catch the 'ears' of the clip. DC was no help either.

Any ideas here guys. This is surely come up before. Maybe someone put GM clips on the Ford handles? I am hoping to get this put together in 2 more days. Thanx, Dolittle.

  2. If it's the type that uses the horseshoe clip just keep trying it will pop loose. HRP

If the clips are wire type with 2 edges sticking outwards? Take a rag and use it like a v-belt on a pulley. It should grab a sharp end, and rotate the clip outwards.

Use the Ford tool, push the 'horseshoe' ends up as far as you can...Now get hold of the underside of the 'loop' of the wire, I use an old choke cable handle with 2" of the stiff music wire, hooked at the end...just 1/16" hook. (bend & flatten, then chop off short)
The hook will slide that wire horseshoe keeper out slicker than the intestines of recently departed resurgents...

  5. I used a pick tool and worked it out from the backside.

Thank you for the ideas. I will try the 'pick' method tomorrow morning.
