Any recommendations?? Looking for a carburetor for my 1954 mercury. Doesn't have to be the original just looking for something that will bolt on without any h***le! From what I know about the motor is that it was rebuilt with a 272 born y block but with 256 yblock bolt-ons.engine runs great but the carburetor is beat up and leaking. Here are some pictures of what is in there now...

  2. I used WCFB carbs from Buick or Olds 1955 or thereabouts with the square bolt pattern on a 57 dual quad manifold on a 292 Y block . Ran great

53 Cads, Buicks, and Olds Carter WCFB's work the best and are bolt on. You need to use a phenolic spacer under them for cooling. Also an adapter can be bought to install a late model carb. With your size engine, a 390cfm Holley or a 465 cfm Holley for rock crawlers will work fine. A Summit 600 is also a good choice and loved by many Y- Block guys. Good luck. I too use 2 WCFB's on my dual quad 292 Y....
