As some of you might remember this Group folded from the Web a while back, looks like a replacement on Facebook by the name of 1954 Ford Fans has evolved, and it has 2.2K members. https://www.facebook.com/groups/929523241252356/members
It's a shame that Don let the '54 Ford Club of America die, Tom Hoskins started the club back before the internet in 1968 and he was p***ionate about it, Danny & I met Tom when we went to Novi, Michigan for the convention. Tom was a dye in the wool restorer but before the weekend was over he was talking about building a '54 Ford with later model running gear. Since he flew in he caught ride with different members, he loved my wagon and rode with us on 3 different occasions over the weekend, that was the weekend he p***ed the torch to Don and Danny took over the club website, I don't know what happened to Don as far as his interest but after his divorce he didn't want to have anything to do with the club. I will support any group that loves the '54 Ford like I do. Thank you Jeff for letting us know about this site.
I really agree with your comments about how Don let the '54 Ford Club die. I was one of the technical advisors for the Club. I would really like to participate in the new group on Facebook but I am no fan of social media and I have no interest in joining Facebook. I just wish that there was some other way that I could join the group without joining Facebook. Any ideas????
Alan I felt the same way. But I have a 56 Tbird besides the 54 Victoria and Facebook had what looked like some good Tbird sites so I joined. No regrets. That said, I signed up for the 54 group. It's ok, but very litle tech stuff. Probably a good place to look for parts and sell stuff. I can check with relatives that I haven't seen in a while so Facebook is still not bad if you use it wisely.
You can join Facebook and be OK, but when you join be sure to set all the security settings when you do so, on every post you will see three dots on the upper right this allows you to block groups and people you have no use for, these days Google is what you really need to watch out for as they use trackers, you may want to install something like this: https://www.comparitech.com/blog/vpn-privacy/free-anti-tracking-browser-extensions/
Alan was a big ***et to the '54 Ford Club of America as was Jeff, Paul helped me moderate after I took over the administration of the site, It was a total shock to me when Don just up and quit, maybe the divorce and the pressures of starting a new business took all his time. I am fortunate enough that Brenda is as a avid car nut especially about '54 Fords, sehe is also a member of FB so I can check out the sites using her account, I am not a member. Tom always wanted to see the membership continue to grow and with Don's starting the website it did but the paying membership dwindled, Don told me a few years ago he was loosing money doing the news letter and hosting the website. maybe that was part of the problem. Jeff started a site here on the hamb and since then it has morphed into the '52-'59 site, the hamb has a huge following and at least we have a home. HRP
I wonder what happened to all of that valuable Ford literature and other misc. stuff that Tom gave to Don when Don took over as president???? Tom had spent many years collecting all of those things. Does anyone know????
