Very nice looking vintage rig, not too overdone. I like it!

That 'burb sits nice. What are the specs on the lowering job?

I'm doing a panel right now but have no idea how it'll sit when it's done...right now it's just a shell with no front clip.

    Thanks,
I flipped the rear in the back, on the factory leaf springs, small notch and box job on the frame rails. The front has 2 leaves removed, and a factory I beam that's been dropped about 4". The wheels and tires are temporary, they are 80's 6 lug steel wheels, they are too wide and too big of a tire. I'm workin on my factory wheels to get them painted body color, and I have a set of bias ply wide whites. That should give me a little more steering back. There's some work involved to keep it straight axle, and some sacrifices to make. But I'm glad I never went IFS, at least for this one.

mine sits up a bit higher, with a rake....but it's about as low as it can go and still be totally functional, no need to worry about bottoming out ever, rear frame is not notched, axle housing does not hit the floor, etc. 72 Camaro subframe, rear uses stock springs, on front spring hangers mounted under the frame, and the axle sits on top of the springs.

I'm in the market for something like this. Classic truck, panel van whatever. Looking to make it my daily and give my current daily to my daughter.

  12. Was lucky enough to pick up a '56 panel a couple of months back from the Savannah area, but it's missing the passenger side quarter panel !!!

Soooo, if anyone knows of a good '55-'59 panel/suburban passenger side quarter panel, I'm in need :D

  13. Mike, I still have a roof for you, if you can want to put together a HAMB relay :)

there's no such thing as a good pass side quarter panel for one of these! but I did sell a driver side that was sort of useable, a few years ago.

  15. GEEZ Jim, way to keep my hopes up there, buddy- see if I offer any more '28 help :D

Yeah, I do know of a long body that has a usable quarter panel, but really don't want to buy the whole thing just to get a quarter... and I know that I can use door skins and the lower part of a '58-9 fleetside bedside, but I figured that I'd throw it out there- "he who does not ask, does not receive"

    it's worth a try

it just seems that the pass side gets banged up on them, they didn't come with a pass side rear view mirror as standard equipment!

  17. Might have a lead on a quarter panel- not perfect, but good enough to get the project moving!

Mike, Brad54 will be heading to the Chicago are in the next month. If you can find a way to get the rood from there to you, I can send it with him!!! If you want to make it happen, please let me know now, so I can get the roof ready to go :)

  18. GREAT NEWS!!!

Got a usable patch for my panel truck... had to buy the clapped out '57 3800 to get it, but I should be able to break even flipping the usable parts on it :)

And Mike, I still have that roof for your panel, if you want to put a relay together, OR wait for the summer- Brad54 is going to the Meltdown Drags in mid July!

Oh, and about that 3800- it had a spare tire carrier mounted vertically behind the driver's seat (looks to be factory) and the driver's side door handle didn't have a key hole (like I'm used to seeing on 20's automobiles)- anyone know if this was stock, normal, rare, etc?

Here's my 56 panel that I hope to have on the road soon.LOL 20141204_182434.jpg

  21. Uh that last one is a dodge. :D

I helped a guy put a 4-71 Gimmy in one of those when I was in high school. it was a damned good drive it anywhere truck.

  22. Jim,

Thanks for letting me know- I figured that the door handle would probably be common/normal, but wanted to make sure.
Will have to look up the spare carrier in my assembly manual- may use it, just 'cause it's neat!

How about a picture or two of the tire carrier? It could probably be moved back some, eh? Spare tire location is a problem when you put a hitch receiver on the truck, since it originally went under the back.

  24. Just as soon as I can figure out how to download the pics from the new phone... :D
It looks pretty much like a stock carrier, but has a 90 degree flange on the end to bolt to the floor, and the fasteners are factory stock carriage bolts with washer/square nuts.

  25. Okay, here are the pics (gotta love that it's the end of January and the red ants are ALREADY BUILDING MOUNDS!!!)- I also love the fact that years ago, someone delivered a panel from Jersey down to Georgia for me to find :D:

thanks for the pics of the mount, that's interesting...you gonna use it? :)

nice panel, I think it's better days were a long time ago.

  27. YUP!
It'll go behind the back seat (going to put a second row in for the kiddies, and eventually give them some light as well :D)
Not sure if I want to put it on the driver or passenger side though, as my big butt will be in the driver's seat most of the time, and the gas tank is on the passenger side...

Yeah, it lead a happier life before it landed in the yard, I'm sure- trying to talk myself out of finding a diesel to put in it and enjoy all that extra space!

  28. I went and looked at this one 2 weeks ago, it was the most solid one I had seen in a long time. I decided I needed to finish my current projects before buying another. 00y0y_1c0EuIrTWl8_600x450.jpg
