I suppose this is a long shot but was wondering if anyone has ever tried to remove the outer steering column sleeve on a 1955 Buick.

I am trying to repair the horn on my 1955 Buick. I need to replace a br*** ring on the shaft inside the column sleeve. I suspect I need to pull at least the column sleeve off.

I am just wondering if I have to pull everything out or can I just somehow remove just the outer sleeve to reveal the shaft.

if you've already removed the steering wheel, wiring, shifter, turn signal etc. you need to loosen the clamp on the bottom of the steering column to get the mast jacket off.
