thanks everyone.really appreciate it !! couldnt agree more kool! onto these scoops... there had to be a way to seal the out side of the car from inside the quarter panel this is what i came up with. the part in the back of the scoop will sit inside the quarter while the leading edge of the scoop will be welded to the leading edge of he quarter if that makes any sense. only the manliest colors of seam sealer in this shop and the scoop from the front....
Looking good Flop - I never liked that vertical chrome 'vent' trim on the quarter panels of '50 to '56 Caddys, in my opinion it really breaks up the 'flow' of the car. I did away with it on the chopped '53 I had as well.
thanks gator!! Glad ted wanted them gone as well. I could never stand them either. thanks midwest!!! a little tease!!
yeah Flop. I just saw your solution to sealing the back of the scoop. You made a fully enclosed sleeve then slipped it into the scoop opening then weld along the seam. You are the Master Blaster.
Tastefully done! Caddy's are sexy to start but this one is getting better and better...excellent work!
thanks everybody! so got the scoop 99 percent done to get the nice edge i was on the way to home depot to get some eighth inch round stock low and behold a political sign has eighth inch round stock holding it in the ground .so ted you will forever have a piece of pittsburgh in your car!! rocker goes in on the passenger side tomorrow! we got these from classic fabrication and damn does the quality look amazing!!
Can't add much more than the others have said Flop...just extremely nice work man! The car is coming out great, and your mods are classy, staying true to form for a Cadillac. Very, very nice! Tony
Thanks tony and james. i think there is a super fine line you have to walk when customizing a caddy.ted and james d are on that line. mods have to look factory in my opinion to work and keep the car looking classy like you said tony. thanks old soul
Very true Flop, I think the fact that you feel that way is the reason your '55 is coming out so well. I think the key to successfully customizing a Caddy is subtly improving on it - my '55 will be a very mild custom. If you remember my '53 was WAY overchopped when I got it, so much so that the curved rear window laid over into the body lines and it looked all out of proportion. When I redid it I put in a smaller back glass and pancaked the rear area of the roof to make it less 'bulky'. Looked 100% better but it was still too much - I never was completely happy with it. I'd post pictures but this is your thread and I don't wanna hijack it.
thanks ian means alot!! gator post as much as ya want on here hopefully it helps some folks out seeing what we are talking about. got a rocker in today . usually i am hard to impress with replacement panels but goddamn the guys from classic fabrication impressed me to no end with there rockers http://www.classicfabrication.com/ the outter skin was toast cutting out and drilling out about 35 spot welds the inner rockers were next to perfect . still places with bare metal and no rust primer on top and weld thru primer where the rocker is going to spot weld in needed some assistance for the bottle jack to hold the rocker in place while i got some spot welds in to hold thing together!
gotta love good quality replacement panels! looks like they were priced good too. nice how the inners were in good shape too
