this was a bigger mess then i expected alot of shrinking to get the curve tacked in the inner panels all done as well .primered and probably wont see the light of day until they rot out in another 60 or so years skirt fits better then before should be done with all the rust midweek then onto the scoop on this side
Looking good Flop, the '55 I just bought is gonna need a small (I hope) repair in the same area, hoping it's not as bad as yours. Just ordered a shirinker/stretcher just for the occasion - ha ha. I kinda wish they made repair panels but I'm such a cheap-ass I'd probably still make my own.
Well that's probably better than finding Jimmy Hoffa. Btw I just read this all the way through. You metalwork guys really amaze me with the stuff that you do. On board for the rest of the trip. Eli
hey gator pretty easy repair but sucks weld on the quarter because of how low corown it is .it warps like a son of a bitch thanks eli!! stock height zed!! almost done with the rust its been a fight ! weld and grind then some english wheel action always always make the patch way bigger so you can get a nice shape to it then trim it down to what you actually need about 6 more inches of welding then onto the fun stuff!!
to get the nice edge i was on the way to home depot to get some eighth inch round stock low and behold a political sign has eighth inch round stock holding it in the ground .so ted you will forever have a piece of pittsburgh in your car!! QUOTE] I do this same thing. If the political signs are not picked up within the week following the election, I do a public service and pick them all up. The 1/8th inch steel rod is great for closing panel gaps and a number of other uses around the shop. Very nice work on the Cad. I've followed your other build threads and I am very impressed with your talent.
Don´t be so quick to judge - you got to wait til the 10x15" slot mags are fitted to get the full effect.
thanks Ian! Thanks mr clean! James d knows how its gonna look we just gave you the photoshops that meet the hambs needs!! done with the rust!!!!
Thanks for taking all of the photos and postin' 'em up Flop. I've enjoyed following along as you beat it into submission. -W
Flop doesn't beat metal into submission. I think he wispers sweet nothings to the metal and it willingly obeys his every wish. Be....the ball Danny.
Great work Flop!! I am learning a ton from your pics. I suspect there is many years of practice going on here lol. I am going to have lots of rust to fix on my 55 Cad, so I guess I will get some practice too. It will be a switch from the southern Nova I'm working on now!! Bill
thanks Woo! not a problem postin the pics . ted...be the metal flop c thanks bill just turned 27! the quarters are rough work . a low crown panel is tricky welding .
arts and crafts day at the shop . tied up the under neath of the car .so its back on the ground. rub you dirty hand on the poster board and illl be goddamned the image of a scoop appears so really i taped it to the other scoop to get its shape and transfered it to the drivers side thanks concept!
cut a big hole in the side of teds car today a new piece i made on the english wheel took it out after i had it mocked up here and aded some more crown to the panel in the middle tacked in ready to make the inner pieces to seal the scoop off from the quarter!! this side went a whole lot easier then the last thats for sure!!
I just spent a half hour going through this thread. Dont know how I missed it! Great proportions, beautiful work.
thanks 37zep!! a little foam a little sculpting and doone!! thanks chaz!!i am always amazed at the stuff i somehow miss.then do the same thing wonder how i miss it.
Once again Flop, very cool. Ever think of marketing those patch panels? Gonna need some myself soon, bought myself a shrinker/stretcher for Christmas but if panels were available I'd be all over them!
i thought about it gator . the downward compound curve would be the killer to make a buck for and i would want to put out another crappy patch in the world! i would be super weird about selling something that might need tweaked .
Damn Flop, you don't mess around. A 55 Caddy is on my bucket list and your not helping my patience much.
