Looking good, what alternator mount did you use? I have the mount on the exhaust manifold on my 327. Want to go to different exhaust manifold but don't have the drilled holes in the head for bracket.
All the glass is installed now. Rug and sill plates installed. Just waiting on my interior. Im having custom seat covers and door panels made. While I'm waiting just checking off the small tasks. Almost ready for the road!
Ok this is going to be a long post. Finally register the 55. Starts great idles great runs great for the first 10 miles engine temperature is running around 180. The problem is once the engine compartment gets hot the car falls on its face. So i know it was vapor locking and boiling the fuel on first carb. I put 1/4” isolators between carb flange and intake. I thought this would solve the problem. It did not. I did replace my pressure regulator and noticed I had 2-3 psig on fuel log gauge and now when its hot its zero? Its so hot under the enigine bay im thinking the fuel it getting to hot snd evaporating. I went 10 miles and used 1/4 tank of gas. No leaks I looked. Any suggestions?
it is shrouded. Engine temp is reading 180-200. Problem is hot air hits carbs. Thats why I made the deflector in picture. Its a mechanical fan.
You might have to relocate your fuel filter, regulator and lines away from the cylinder head. Your interior is super sharp and goes really well with the rest of the car. Awesome build!
Great looking car! In the above profile photo, what is the shiny rectangle at the front of the fender, below the Chevrolet script? Gotta56forme/Scott
Just a stock sbc mechanical pump. I put a new regulator on it today. When i first started it i was reading 2-3 psig i have it set for 2. Now its reading zero? Everything i read and watch says no more than 2.5 psig on holley 94 carbs. Just odd when it gets hot it shuts down. My guess is the fuel is so hot its either evaporating or still boiling over. All the carbs are so hot you cant touch them. Same with the aluminum valve covers. Car was running at 180-200 on a 90 degree day according to mechanical temp gauge that is in the top of intake.
Sounds like vapor lock, put a bag of ice on the fuel pump and see if it will start. I still have heard nothing but bad things about those round dial regulators
Ok everyone 2 months and alot has happened with this 4x2 carb set up. Relocated the fuel regulator to the passenger side inner fender. When the car is just started the fuel pressure is 1.5 psig. As the engine bay heats up to drops to zero. I think this is due to the rubber hose heating up and expanding. As for the car flooding out. It was the power valves leaking. Talked to a multi carb guy and he recommended removing the primary power valves He machines the power valves to make them flat so they seal. The seconday carbs already had plugs. After I replaced them and rejetted on his knowlege. I was actually able to drive the car without it flooding out. But it had this weird hick up when driving. So i decided to remove secondary linkage and just start with primary carbs. While idling on primaries with no fuel or linkage on secondaries I put my hand over rear carb and boom it sucked it in. Same with front carb just not as bad. The base cross shaft was worn and sucking air. Replaced all 4 bases this solved that problem. Now cold to warm car sounds and starts fine. Took it for a ride rolled into second carbs and it took tge fuel but after it started to back fire through the exhaust. Im wondering if im still getting to much fuel. Im going to remove secondary linkage and fuel to those 2 carbs and try to run it on the primary carbs and see if its drivesble. Currently have 50 jets in all four carbs. Its just a 327 with hardly any cam. Trying to get an idea where I should be jet wise. Any advice is appreciated!
