    Does it just transfer the balance to different speakers? Is it a Rheostat of a sort?

    Yes, the rear speaker was an option.

    i'll take it,someone took the one out of my 55 bel air wagon and left a ugly ass make shift plug. needless to say looks like shit.

    nope. We had one in the 61 chevy ragtop when I was a kid, though. Looked like a 61 chevy knob instead of a 55

    yes-wife's 55 has one since new- and sold two others on ebay
