  9. Enjoyed your well done story and photos. You have been respectfull to the original builder too. He would be proud that you are the care taker of his car. I notice that you are pushing Don's place! Don and I were friends in the 70's. I use to run around with JW his crew chief. Been to his Seffner home many times and showed cars with Don. He always called me Teacher as I taught school there in Tampa near-by. I don't think he EVER knew my name!!!!?? I also started using his THEN machineist Jon Zorian. I have 2 Zorian engines in my collection. Things happened and there were problems there with Jon's work later on and the two split. Ed Pink was the man for Jon. We once went to the airport to get Don another motor flown in from Calif. It had to have the blower and all on it for the return flight. Those were the days!
    Thanks for your posting.

Here's my 55 from the 2003 Rod & Custom "Ego-Rama" almost 10 years ago! It was somewhat novel then , there are so many red 55 straight axle cars now, its almost common looking.

Thanks, man! My pops owned it back in the 60's-70's. I grew up playing with hot wheels in back seat, learned to drive in it, and watched American Graffiti perched on the tailgate when it came out. We drove this car to the very first and second MHRA(Mich. Hot Rod Assoc.) fall picnics, 73' and 74', I believe. Our whole family would'nt fit in dad's 34 3W. Also remember going to the 72' NSRA Nat's kick-off cruise in it. Lots of cool memories! I was able to buy it back 20 yrs after dad sold it, about 15 yrs ago now. I actually relocated it at the Woodward cruise in the late 90's from the same guy who bought it. Funny thing is, I had been looking for a nomad for my family(55-57) for about 6 months prior. Never imagined I would be able to get the old nomad back. I still had the key for it that I got on my 16th birthday, along with keys for all dad's rods. At 50 yrs young, it seems like only yesterday! Could share a whole page of memories. Paul

my dad(75) is still with us and still driving a 55 chev. For as long as I can remember, there's always been a 55-57 chev in the driveway!

  18. We had a '56 Nomad, my dad bought around '67-'68 and sold in '71. We have some pics with the licsence plate # and we know who the guy was he sold it to. I'm gonna start a thread to see if we can find it. This black & silver one is a bit of a sleeper, runs low 12's/112 mph. It will get 15x4 and 15x8 cragars soon. When my brother is not looking, I'll sneak the front bumper off too. IMAG0682.jpg

nice 56'! Would be neat to find your dad's old nomad. I don't know if we're blessed or cursed with this car culture we were brought up in. Sure is fun and keeps you feeling young, most of the time.

The nicest cars start out with the nice ones to begin with.
Your car, you paid for it, do as you please. Good luck which ever way you decide to go.

  25. That's how mine looked when the previous owner started making it a Gasser. He took the chrome off, radiused the wheel wells and called it done until I bought it and did what I did. But I'm sure that you can find one in worse shape to start with. I don't have the heart to start with something that nice. I would have bought one not so nice but it was already done so. Yours, I couldn't.

  26. If you start with one in worse shape you can do what you want with no reservations.
Sell yours for all kinds of money and put it into a more deserving project.
