1955 second series 3100 truck. Looked at the manual and seemed straight forward but getting the front pin out seems like a lot more of a project than they show. Pushing them inward I run into the frame, outward and you run into the bed step. Do you have to pull the step or am I completely missing something stupid simple?
I have seen an article, (Classic trucks i think). That says remove the step. I want to know for sure as i have one too and need to do rear suspension work. Also i have seen a hole drilled in the step Big enough for a socket to get in there.
Removing a pickup bed is not hard to do. Only a few bolts, and a couple of friends to lift it off. Makes the rest of the work much easier, and you can clean up the frame and paint it.
It’s been a minute since I replaced the springs in my 57 GMC step side, but I did not remove the bed to put in my new Posie rear springs.
Looked a little more, maybe 8 bolts holding the bed on. I have a lift so would be pretty easy to get it off the frame. Just don't see any way to get those front pins out without lifting the bed or removing the step. Did get Posies springs for front and rear, also have a drop axle on the way from Sids. Truck has some pretty large tires on it right now, have some lower profile ones on the way so will see how it looks then. Fronts were easy, took maybe an hour and a half. Sunny day so couple beers and not in a hurry, was a long week.
